A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Three Suggestions for… Things That Went Wrong While You Were Away

Three Suggestions for… Things That Went Wrong While You Were Away by Eran Aviram is a role playing game supplement published by Up to Four Players. It’s stated that it is for use with Dungeon World or Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition, but it’s actually Dungeon World or generic. It is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License.

The supplement is available as a five-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $1 but was purchased at a reduced price during a sale. Most of one page is rear matter.

Three Suggestions for... Things That Went Wrong While You Were AwayThe introductory paragraphs say that, when the characters return home or to home base after an adventure, they discover that something has gone wrong. These are divided into three sets of three and each has a custom move for Dungeon World.

Something from Outside has exterior forces acting on the town. Something has moved in and settled, a rampaging horde has passed through or a dragon has taken over.

Something from Within has the location affected by a change from within. A leader has been deposed or died and something new has taken their place, the location is celebrating an important event or, for one reason or another, something essential to the settlement’s existence has ceased.

Something Personal is personal to a character. Unwanted visitors, the return of an NPC or fallout from something done on the previous visit.

The PDF lacks bookmarks and at this length doesn’t need them. The text maintains a two-column landscape format and appeared to be free of errors. There is a single colour illustration. Presentation is okay.

As mentioned, this isn’t exactly suitable for D&D 5E. The parts that are, are suitable for any system, being system-neutral. The only system mechanics are for Dungeon World and would probably need a lot of adapting to work with 5E. As a 5E supplement, this really isn’t. As a useful generic supplement with some system crunch for Dungeon World, it’s useful. It can be considered to be a bunch of adventure hooks. Three Suggestions for… Things That Went Wrong While You Were Away is a decent little supplement and it can be found by clicking here.
