The Order of Vaxx

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement The Order of Vaxx

The Order of Vaxx by Travis Legge is a role playing game supplement published by Onyx Path Publishing for Pugmire through the Canis Minor Community Content Programme. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a six page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers and two pages are the Open Game License, Legal & Credits. The PDF comes in two versions, one full colour and the other a black and white printer friendly version.

The Order of VaxxThe Order of Vaxx is a Shepherd option for Pugmire. The introductory paragraphs explain that some dogs consider protecting dogs from the Unlife to be only just behind Being a Good Dog. The most zealous of these may be approached by the Order of Vaxx, a secret order within the Church of Man. Dogs who join the order use a secret concoction, known as Vaxx, that allows them to draw a small amount of dark power into them and gain added protection from the Unlife.

The mechanical part of the supplement is a new trick, Inoculated. Once a dose of Vaxx is consumed, the dog may spend a Stamina die to gain advantage on saving throws against the Unlife. The trick can be enhanced by being taken multiple times, which grants new abilities; one of these being able to use the Baytrick like a Demon Hound.

The final paragraphs discuss using the Order of Vaxx in-game; it’s darker but not too dark. How the Order itself is regarded is important to consider and is up to the Guide.

The Order of Vaxx in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and, with less than two pages of true content, doesn’t need them. Navigation is fine. The text primarily maintains a two-column full colour format, though it is single column in one section, and appeared to be free of errors. The illustrations are the cover and opening one and are Canis Minor stock. Presentation is fine.

This is a quick, simple addition to a Pugmire game that grants a character a new ability. Perhaps the most interesting part is deciding how to integrate the Order into the game. Perhaps they are known and respected; perhaps they are outlawed and thought to be tainted by the Unlife. Perhaps they are completely secret and act as a source of adventure hooks. It’s up to the Guide. The Order of Vaxx is a nice little supplement and it can be found by clicking here.
