The List

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement The List

The List by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with Cepheus Engine. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a 15 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter and three the Open Game License.

The ListThe opening paragraph explains that the characters hear gunfire at a starport. Once things calm down, they find what is presumably one of the gunmen, now dead, and he has a list of names. Many of them have been scratched off; the characters’ names are also on the list.

The Patron explains that there isn’t one.

Complications essentially says that the local authorities will take any evidence and will not appreciate others investigating.

Who is Behind the List has a d6 table of potential organisations and people.

The Star Port Authorities covers the person who is investigating the attack.

Solving the Mystery has options for clues to find, depending on who sent the assassins.

Assassination Team (If Needed) has stats for one.

Star Port Guards has stats for local security.

Mission Completion Objectives explains that what the characters need to do is find whoever was behind the assassination attempt and stop them.

The List in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and, though comparatively short, has enough sections that these would have been useful. Navigation could be better. The text follows a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. There are no illustrations bar the covers. Presentation is adequate.

Given how many adventures in this series by the end have the patrons planning to kill the characters for various reasons, it would be simple enough to link this adventure to one of those, but there are other possibilities too. The supplement also has a common problem; largely faceless NPCs each having their own stats when one or two stat blocks would have sufficed. The List is a generally simple, though rather freeform adventure with various options, and it can be found by clicking here.
