The Gangs of Vadashar – Rogues Gallery II

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement The Gangs of Vadashar – Rogues Gallery II

The Gangs of Vadashar – Rogues Gallery II by Cliff Dunn is a role playing game supplement published by ZealZaddy for use with Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a 14-page PDF for $0.99 from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover, one the front matter, one the Contents and one the Open Game License.

The Gangs of Vadashar – Rogues Gallery IIThe first two pages of content are taken up by some links to Free City of Vadashar material, a sidebar, Welcome to the Free City of Vadashar, that is duplicated from other supplements and gives background and history of the city, its present and future and some details on using the gangs in Vadashar or in another setting.

The Gangs of Vadashar: Rogues Gallery II starts with some opening paragraphs on the gangs before moving onto the first.

The Hormuz Square Cadgers is led by a captain in the army of Vadashar’s Beggar King, and consists of beggars. There’s a core membership of around 30, but they can form a horde over 200 if needed. The Cadgers are typically hired by others, including other gangs and thieves such as Queen Ezmeera, as a distraction or a show of force, though if violence is involved, the Cadgers become scarce unless paid to stick around. There are stats on important NPCs.

The North Souk Dusters is one of the city’s largest pickpocket gangs, with around 100 members, operating in the North Souk. They stage various types of distractions to separate people from their purses and the stats are given for the current leader.

The Old Jamiya Cadets are former street urchins dabbling in drug peddling, prostitution and as hired goons. They also host surprisingly decent plays, musicals and variety shows and, though primarily non-violent, are also xenophobic against those not of Vadashar. Stats are given for important members.

Appendix has a new magic item, the Thurible of Discord, which when burnt affects the emotional state of whoever scents it; it increases the negative or the positive of a crowd.

The Gangs of Vadashar – Rogues Gallery II in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with major and minor sections linked. The Contents is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of error. There are a number of colour stock art pieces. Presentation is good.

Like the first supplement, these gangs should be easy enough to drop into other settings. Changes will probably need to be made – names are mentioned at the beginning – but the overall goals and behaviour of the groups should work with other cities. They will need to be cities of a certain type; big enough to host gangs and with a high enough crime or corruption level that they can’t be fully eradicated. The gangs are described in enough detail to be useful and they can be fleshed out with more common stats for members. The Gangs of Vadashar – Rogues Gallery II can be found by clicking here.
