A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement The Favored of Skexxiz

The Favored of Skexxiz by Bret Boyd is a role playing game supplement published by Fat Goblin Games for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available from DriveThruRPG as an 18-page PDF but was purchased at a discount as part of a special bundle. One page is the front cover, one the front matter, one the Contents and some introductory text and one the Open Game License.

The introductory text explains that this isn’t an adventure but a location, intended for characters of levels 2-3, that could be dropped into a larger adventure, with some suggestions as to how to use it.

Area Details explains that there is one of three outposts guarding an entrance to a growing tribe of troglodytes close to a fishing village. The troglodytes have been successfully raiding and the locals want help. An overview is given as to the general appearance of the underground areas, unless otherwise specified.

The various locations in the complex are described, one of which has an exit that leads towards the main troglodyte tribe.

Adventure Ideas has several different ideas for using the location.

New Deity presents Skexxiz, a god of stealth and deception, and details on his worshippers, temples and a new ability granted to troglodytes that improves their stench.

The final two pages of content have a colour map of the complex.

The Favored of Skexxiz in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with major sections linked. The Contents is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of colour illustrations, as well as the map. Presentation is decent.

Though this is presented as not being an adventure, instead just being a location, there isn’t a whole lot of difference. All that’s needed are a beginning and ending and this is an adventure, and suggestions are given for a beginning. It also has the option of being expanded, by linking to the main troglodyte tribe.
