The Dee Sanction: Ex Libris

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement The Dee Sanction: Ex Libris

The Dee Sanction: Ex Libris by Paul Baldowski is a role playing game supplement published by Just Crunch Games for use with The Dee Sanction.

The supplement is available as a two-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $1.85 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a bundle.

The Dee Sanction: Ex LibrisThe first part of the adventure explains that the agents are sent by Dee to Deptford to find a book that was lost when Mortlake (where Dee had a house) was sacked. It gives background on what happened there and when the agents arrive in Deptford at the house in question to find they are not the only ones after the book, as there are others already outside the house.

The underground complex beneath a house in Deptford is detailed, which the agents will explore, confronting the dangers and the other person after the book; there are also a number of other items of potential use to be found. If the main mover of the opposition (a historical figure of some note as it happens) manages to escape, they can call in their other forces.

The PDF lacks bookmarks and at this length doesn’t need them. Navigation is fine. The text has both a three- and a four-column landscape format, which are difficult to read on smaller devices without zooming, especially the four-column, and appeared to be free of errors. There is a single black and white illustration and a map of the underground complex. Presentation is adequate.

This is a simple, self-contained adventure, with the only location of note being the underground complex; the house above it is only briefly described. Simple and self-contained doesn’t mean safe, though, and characters can still end up in trouble. In truth, the adventure doesn’t really need to be set in Deptford, either; it could be easily moved. The Dee Sanction: Ex Libris is a decent little adventure and it can be found by clicking here.
