A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement The Brunnmigi: A Creature for Vaesen

The Brunnmigi: A Creature for Vaesen by Graeme Davis is a role playing game supplement published by Free League Publishing through the Free League Workshop Community Content Programme for use with Vaesen – Nordic Horror Roleplaying.

The supplement is available as a four page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover and one the credits and related material.

The Brunnmigi: A Creature for VaesenThe vaesen in the supplement is laid out in the same way as the official creatures in the core book; given that this is by the same author, this is not a surprise. There is some flavour text related to the creature, then a description of it, a trickster that looks like a humanoid fox that fouls wells and fresh water sources with urine.

After this are stats for the brunnmigi’s characteristics, magical powers, conditions and combat, the ritual needed to defeat the brunnmigi and the secret needed to permanently kill it. A sidebar gives details on Knud Plesner Ibsen, father of the famous Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen.

Three adventure hooks are given, each related to issues caused by the brunnmigi’s poisoning of water supplies resulting in people and livestock falling ill and water sources becoming tainted.

Finally, there are details of a brunnmigi encountered in The Saga of Hálf and His Heroes.

The Brunnmigi: A Creature for Vaesen in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with the major sections linked. Given the length, navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a couple of old public domain illustrations. Presentation is okay.

As with other supplements of this type, this covers a single new creature for Vaesen. In this case, it’s a Norse vaesen, suitable for the lands covered by the core book, though that doesn’t mean it couldn’t be used elsewhere. The Brunnmigi: A Creature for Vaesen is another new useful creature to expand those available and it can be found by clicking here.
