A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Terrinoth Taverns

Terrinoth Taverns by Chris Markham is a role playing game supplement published by Edge Studio via the Genesys Foundry Community Content Programme for use with Genesys and Terrinoth.

The supplement is available as a 20-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $2.99 but was purchased at a reduced price during a sale. One page is the front cover and one the front matter.

Terrinoth TavernsThe Introduction explains that the supplement is intended for the world of Mennara, but can be converted to other settings, and says what’s needed to use it. It then explains what it contains, how the supplement is organised, that lore not only comes from Realms of Terrinoth but also other previous Terrinoth-based products such as Runebound and Descent. There’s also a brief Contents.

The rest of the supplement is taken up covering four taverns. Each tavern has a description, which also covers where it is in the setting, a pub sign, map and layout, menu of food and drinks with descriptions and prices, NPCs with portraits and stats and adventure hooks. Some also have sidebars on things specific to the tavern.

Geargrinders is a Gnome-run tavern with clockwork mechanisms and fights between clockworks. The Grog Pit is a rough, Orc-owned dive tavern that is loud and sometimes violent. The Silver Chalice is an exclusive and expensive place with fine food and drink. The Bloody Naga is a tavern with a connection to Zanaga and is frequented by those seeking a taste of the place.

Terrinoth Taverns in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that these would have been useful. The Contents covers the major sections. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are black and white maps as well as quite extensive colour art, including custom. Presentation is good.

Inns and taverns are a fantasy staple and each tavern is described in a good level of detail. They can be used as simple places to frequent, but the addition of adventure hooks makes them more than this. It should be easy enough to drop them into other locations in the Terrinoth setting; dropping them into other settings, and using other systems, will require more work but is possible. Terrinoth Taverns is a decent little supplement and it can be found by clicking here.
