A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Tawedog

Tawedog by Alun Rees is a role playing game supplement published by Columbia Games Inc. for use with HârnMaster. This is a short Bestiary article.

The supplement is available as a 2-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $1.48 but was purchased at a reduced price during a sale.

TawedogThe first page is Tawedog, Old Ones of the Forest. This describes the Old Ones and explains that they are one of the most mysterious of the ancient species of Hârn and are now rare, though they used to roam further than they do today. Human tribes believe they are capable of magic and the Kubora practice facial mutilation and branding that may be done to resemble the Old Ones. Those of civilised societies are largely unaware of the Old Ones and ignorant of what they are. A sidebar gives the HârnMaster game stats for the beings.

Way of Life explains that the Old Ones are primarily solitary creatures and can move just as easily, and as quietly, swinging through the trees as moving through the undergrowth. The Old Ones are likely to flee if confronted, but if their berserk rage is triggered, they are very dangerous.

Lore covers the lore linked with the Old Ones; this is primarily a Kuboran myth that links them to the tribal god Crador the Blind. The Nolgind boast that they killed all the Old Ones on their islands.

The PDF lacks bookmarks and at two pages doesn’t need them. Navigation is fine. The first page has a single column with sidebar format and the second a two-column format and the text appeared to be free of errors. There are two illustrations, one colour and one black and white. Presentation is good for a supplement of this length.

This is another of a series of bestiary supplements that aim to describe a single creature, or related creatures, in detail, which is what it does. The only stats are in the sidebar, which makes the majority of the supplement system neutral and a detailed work on a curious intelligent being. Tawedog can be found by clicking here.
