So What’s the Hoard Like, Anyway? II by Andrew J. Martin and Liz Smith is a role playing game supplement published by Raging Swan Press for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.
The supplement is available as a 22-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $3.99 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter, Contents and Foreword, one page is an ad and one is the Open Game License. The PDF comes in two versions, one designed for print and high-end devices, the other for mobile and low-end devices.
The Foreword explains that the hoards have been built using the guidelines in the Core Rulebook and that this supplement has treasure hoards suitable for characters of levels 8-14, following on from the levels 1-7 of So What’s the Hoard Like, Anyway?.
The rest of the supplement is taken up by the treasures hoards. Just as with the first supplement, these are separated into seven different levels, each of which has 12 hoards to randomly roll on a table, with the worth of the hoard given on the table. The different hoards are then individually described, with coinage, if present, and then individual items of value. These individual items range from more ordinary items, such as gems and jewellery, to more unusual items of worth, to magic items.
Identifying Treasure has some rules for how to identify treasure, both magical and mundane.
So What’s the Hoard Like, Anyway? II in Review
The PDF is bookmarked with major and minor sections linked. The Contents is not as thorough but is hyperlinked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be almost free of errors. There are a number of stock black and white illustrations. Presentation is decent.
Just as with the first, this supplement makes the individual hoards more interesting, with descriptions of individual items, rather than just their value, making this a more evocative supplement. It’s also useful for randomly generating hoards without too much difficulty. There’s also a wide range of hoards to pick from, too, and it’s interesting that some lack the traditional coins. So What’s the Hoard Like, Anyway? II is a good little supplement and it can be found by clicking here.
