Shrine of the Harvest Goddess

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Shrine of the Harvest Goddess

Shrine of the Harvest Goddess by Tom Stephens is a role playing game supplement published by New Frontier Games. This is a generic fantasy supplement and part of the Two Sheet Locations series.

Shrine of the Harvest GoddessThe supplement is available as a Pay What You Want item from DriveThruRPG. It consists of a PDF and a zip file than contains a read me and three JPGs. The JPGs are maps of the location. One has a grid inside the quarters in the shrine, one lacks the grid and the final version is labelled. The PDF has five pages with one being the front cover and one a duplicate of the labelled map.

Location explains that the shrine is within a large forest and is part of a city that was overrun years ago. The shrine itself is not in great shape, although the statue of the Harvest Goddess is. The Statue describes the statue itself. Omri Hallam is the keeper of the shrine, and is generally friendly to visitors, apart from two days after the new moon. He isn’t unfriendly at that time; he just doesn’t want visitors. Not for any underhand reasons either. History takes up over a page and explains Omri’s early history, the fall of the city, how Omri survived the sack thanks to his goddess and his current situation. Uses in Game has several ways to get characters involved with the shrine. Finally, the Map Key lays out the shrine.

Shrine of the Harvest Goddess in Review

The PDF, despite its length, is bookmarked. Navigation is very good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of error. The only illustrations are the maps. Presentation is okay.

This is a generic supplement, so it’s suitable for most fantasy games if the GM comes up with some stats. The shrine’s location means it should be easy enough to add to settings; it only needs a large forest where there could have been a settlement over a century previously. The shrine, history and NPC are all described in a great deal of detail. This isn’t somewhere that should be a combat location, but one of the hooks does have characters sent there for false reasons. Shrine of the Harvest Goddess is a very nice little supplement and it can be checked out by clicking here.
