Rodents

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Rodents

Rodents by Brent Bailey and Jonathan Davidson is a role playing game supplement published by Columbia Games Inc. for use with Hârn and HârnMaster. This is a bestiary article.

The supplement is available as a four-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $3.98 but was purchased at a reduced price during a sale.

RodentsThe first page explains that rodents are the most numerous of mammals and pose a serious problem in Hârn and Lythia, explaining the damage they can cause. It explains that there are a number of different species of rodent and it also looks at the various different uses different rodents can be put to, from supposed cures to fur and hides to food; cooked rat is common in some cities and mice are often a source of food too. A sidebar has rules for dealing with rodent infestations; of households, referencing the Household article, manors, referencing HârnManor, and how to remove infestations, which includes a reference to Hunting.

Rat looks at the rat, with a description of them, including an association with Agrik, followed by specific details for the brown, or ship, wharf or sewer, and black, or field or house, rats. A sidebar has stats.

Beaver looks at these, what they are hunted for and the problems caused by their dams. A sidebar has stats.

Squirrel looks at these, with again the uses for which they are hunted, and has stats again in a sidebar.

Rodents in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and at this length doesn’t need them. Navigation is fine. The text maintains a single column with sidebar format and appeared to be free of errors. There are several colour images, including one for each creature. Presentation is good.

Like other bestiary articles, this has a decent amount of fluff to go with the stats, making it more universally useful, though even for a bestiary article, this is on the expensive side at full price. Rodents can be found by clicking here.
