Rapture

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Rapture

Rapture by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with Cepheus Engine. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a 19 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three are the front matter and three the Open Game License.

The opening paragraphs explain that the characters are approached whilst at a starport by a couple who want their daughter rescuing from a religious cult; cultists can be seen at the port, but the daughter has been moved to an asteroid and they are concerned about her safety.

RapturePatrons gives stats on those hiring them.

The Daughter has her stats.

Complications are the potential problems; in this case, the parents don’t know everything and the cult has, as yet, not broken any laws, and rescuing the daughter could well illegal, as well as problematic for other reasons.

Random Encounters in the Base is a simple 2d6 table.

Key to the Asteroid Base maps out the location.

Cult Rule, Beliefs and Doctrines has ten phrases to sprinkle into conversation.

Cult Arsenal is the weapons they have.

Cultist Roster lists the cult’s full members.

New Cult Prospective Members are those who are not yet fully committed.

Conditions for Success are what’s needed to succeed, which will not be easy.

The final page of content is a map of the base.

Rapture in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that these would have been useful. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. Bar the map and cover illustrations, there are no others. Presentation is adequate.

This is not going to be an easy adventure. The full members of the cult are religious fanatics and a doomsday cult, which will make them difficult to deal with. In addition, the parents are lacking some very important information will make things even harder. Should the characters actually succeed, they will have probably broken the law to do so, which could cause more problems. Rapture is a rather tricky little adventure and can be found by clicking here.
