A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Rabbits

Rabbits by Jonathan Davidson is a role playing game supplement published by Columbia Games Inc. for use with HârnMaster. This is a bestiary article.

The supplement is available as a two-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $1.49 but was purchased at a reduced price during a sale.

RabbitsRabbit is the first page and it explains where the animals originated in the setting and that they were brought to Hârn as food animals but escaped into the wild. This page describes their appearance, their ecology, what their uses are, which include other than just as a food source, and some details on legends and associations; Agrikans compare Laranians and Peonians to rabbits as an insult. Some rabbits are still raised in a domesticated situation for food. The sidebar has stats for rabbits and their economic data.

Hare is the second page and is very similar to the first, nut concentrates on the related animal, the hare. Again, their use, ecology, behaviour and folklore are covered, and the use of both animals in heraldry. The sidebar has stats for the hare, but not economic data.

Rabbits in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and at two pages doesn’t need them. The text follows a single column with sidebar format and appeared to be free of errors. There are colour illustrations of both rabbit and hare, possibly stock. Presentation is fine.

Like a lot of these short bestiary articles, this one covers animals that are unlikely to be a threat. In fact, rabbits and hares are less likely than normal to be a threat, though they could well be important as a source of food; rabbits have often been used as a valuable protein source. This, therefore, is an example of an article that really goes into depth about the bits and pieces of the Hârn setting. This also means that the article can easily be used with other systems that use the setting. Rabbits can be found by clicking here.
