People of the Sun

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement People of the Sun

People of the Sun by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with Cepheus Engine. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a 21 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter and three the Open Game License.

People of the SunThe opening paragraphs explain that an archaeologist in the Sonora sector – though not stated, the adventure is set in the Frontiers of Space – has been hearing rumours about an ancient culture on a number of worlds known as the People of the Sun. Some recently discovered ruins seem to be linked to them, and he wants the characters to investigate and answer a number of questions.

The Patron gives some details on the hirer.

The Planet Garen gives some details on the world where the ruins are.

Complications are things that can go wrong.

The Competition is another team interested in the ruins.

The People of the Sun gives details on the still-extent tribe.

Key to the Ruins has a search table, an encounter table and details on the ruins themselves.

People of the Sun Roster has stats for members of the tribe.

Use of Explosives in the Ruins explains that doing so is dangerous.

Mission Completion Objectives are what’s needed to succeed.

The final two pages of content have maps of the ruins.

People of the Sun in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that these would have been useful. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. Bar the maps and covers, there are no illustrations. Presentation is adequate.

There is a common problem with this series in that some of the NPC stats are covered in too much detail, with individual NPC stats where just a few stat blocks would have sufficed. The adventure itself is straightforward enough and has plenty of dangers; the only odd thing is that the People of the Sun have appeared in so many stories as they really aren’t that exceptional. People of the Sun is an okay adventure and it can be found by clicking here.
