Monstrous Lair #66: Wererats’ Sewer by Robert Manson is a role playing game supplement published by Raging Swan Press. The supplement is stated to be system neutral, but also compatible with any version of Dungeons & Dragons, and is therefore covered by the Open Game License with some parts considered to be Open Game Content as a result.
The supplement is available for $1.65 from DriveThruRPG but was purchased at a reduced price thanks to a special offer. The supplement comes in two versions, a plaintext file and a PDF. The PDF has eight pages, with two pages being the front and rear covers, two pages are ads, about half a page the front matter and Contents and one page the Open Game License.
Using this Monstrous Lair is a standard piece of text for the series and explains what the tables are and that the supplement makes two assumptions; the GM has a map of the lair and stats for monsters and details of any treasure.
There is an introductory sentence on wererats, followed by a series of d10 tables.
1: Outside the Lair has descriptions for the sewer around the lair.
2: What’s Going On? is what’s happening, which may or may not involve wererats.
3: Major Lair Features has more important or larger pieces of dressing for the lair.
4: Minor Lair Features is similar but with generally smaller dressing.
5: Wererat’s Appearance has different features to make a wererat distinctive.
6: Treasure has a number of items that might be considered treasure, though no values are given.
7: Trinkets & Trash is more effectively described as trash than trinket.
Monstrous Lair #66: Wererats’ Sewer in Review
The PDF is bookmarked with major and minor sections linked. The Contents are to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There is a single piece of black and white stock art. Presentation is okay.
How close this series stays to a theme can vary, and truthfully some monsters are easier to do this with than others. This one stays pretty close to the theme – as long as the wererats are in a sewer. Sewers are, for a number of reasons, popular with wererats, but not every wererat clan is going to live in them, and at this point how useful this supplement is declines. Monstrous Lair #66: Wererats’ Sewer is a decent supplement, but not so good outside a sewer, and it can be found by clicking here.
