Mini Quest: Song of the Siren Queen

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Mini Quest: Song of the Siren Queen

Mini Quest: Song of the Siren Queen by David Dudka is a role playing game supplement published by Survive RPG for use with Dungeons & Dragons based games, although no specific system is given. This is a short adventure, one in the Mini Quest series.

This is a four page supplement that is available from RPGNow as a Pay What You Want PDF.

Mini Quest: Song of the Siren QueenThe adventure starts with the characters on a ship during a storm. They are tossed overboard and arrive on an island with a few crewmembers.

There are eleven different locations to explore on the primary island and four smaller islands, as well as a number of shipwrecks. These locations can gain the characters information on the titular siren queen, who is the final encounter. This twelfth encounter is also on the map, but is set up to require other encounters first. Characters will need to resist the song of the siren queen in order to find and defeat her.

The final page has Shipwreck Tables, which has six encounters to use with the various shipwrecks around the island, and a d10 table of wandering monsters.

Mini Quest: Song of the Siren Queen in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and at this length doesn’t need them. The text maintains a two column format and a few minor errors were noticed. There are a number of custom black and white illustrations, as well as a map of the island. Presentation is very good for a supplement of this length.

Like many of the adventures in the Mini Quest series, this one fails to say what levels it is aimed at. A GM will need to decide this before playing; otherwise it could prove too easy or too difficult.

This adventure, to a degree, feels like a wilderness hex crawl, only without the hexes and with a definite final encounter. A GM could also expand it a bit, perhaps by increasing the size of the island and adding some more encounters. The only real downside is how the characters get there; they are shipwrecked, whether they like it or not. There isn’t really any other way of handling it, as they could otherwise just leave rather than have to deal with the siren queen. A boat is provided that can be fixed up to leave.

Mini Quest: Song of the Siren Queen is an interesting adventure with an old school feel to it and it can be checked out for free by clicking here.
