Merydrowne Post Apocalyptic Threats

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Merydrowne Post Apocalyptic Threats

Merydrowne Post Apocalyptic Threats by Yanhu Gdr is a role playing game supplement intended for use with Apocalypse World Engine. This is a post-apocalyptic science fiction setting.

This is a twelve page PDF that is available for as a Pay What You Want supplement from RPGNow.

The first section, When Did the Apocalypse Strike, briefly considers how the date of the apocalypse will affect current conditions.

Merydrowne Post Apocalyptic ThreatsWhat Did the Apocalypse Change? considers the effect of an apocalyptic event on habitable zones, scarcity of resources and social uncertainty.

Next is Campaign Apocalypse World. This is the setting of the supplements, a roughly two thousand kilometre square area. It gives some general background, a list of geographical places and finally Metroplexes, the urban settings.

There are then three potential apocalyptic events described, with what effects these might have. These are Nuclear War Apocalypse, Ecological/Environmental Apocalypse and Cosmic Apocalypse.

The final five pages are maps, all variations of the same one, of the Merydrowne setting. There is a black and white unlabelled map, a colour version of this, a colour version with geographical features marked, a colour map with Metroplexes marked and finally a colour map with both geographical features and Metroplexes marked.

Merydrowne Post Apocalyptic Threats in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is short enough that they are not essential. The text maintains a single column format and a few errors were noticed, of a type suggesting that English is not the author’s first language. The sole illustrations are the maps. Presentation is okay.

The setting may be aimed at Apocalypse World but there are no game stats given so it is generic. It is intended for a mini campaign, although there is not a huge amount of information given. A GM could possibly flesh out the setting some more and, indeed, would need to in order to really use it.

This is perhaps a useful start for a post-apocalyptic setting, but definitely needs work to really use it. It could be used as a location to base post-apocalyptic adventures in. The description of the wastelands and the Metroplexes gives a definite Judge Dredd vibe. Merydrowne Post Apocalyptic Threats can be found by clicking here.
