Mail Order Bride

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Mail Order Bride

Mail Order Bride by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with Cepheus Engine. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a 15 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter and three the Open Game License.

Mail Order BrideThe opening paragraphs explain that the characters are hired to ship a mail order bride from the company who arranges this to the person who placed the order. The adventure, though not stated, is set in the Frontiers of Space.

Complications are things that can go wrong or information that the characters lack that can cause problems, and there are quite a few.

The Bride has details on the bride being shipped.

Pirates is a pirate ship that may be encountered in the destination system, with stats for the pirates as well.

The Boyfriend is the prior boyfriend of the bride.

Legal Troubles are potential problems with the law, for some parts of the mission are problematic.

Shape Shifting has some details on this.

Desert Nomads are warriors that may be encountered on the destination planet.

Reluctant Brides and Reluctant Husbands are problems when the bride and her groom meet each other.

Mission Completion Objectives are how to successfully complete the adventure.

Mail Order Bride in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that these would have been useful. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a single column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are no illustrations, bar the covers. Presentation is adequate.

The adventure has a common problem with these, which is going into too much detail on NPCs, covering each individually instead of just having common stats for unimportant people. It also has a fair few potential problems, though not with the person hiring the characters lying to them. Instead, there are a host of potential issues that they do not know about that could easily result in them regretting taking the job. Mail Order Bride is an okay adventure and it can be found by clicking here.
