Krampusnacht: Night of the Krampus! (An Orphanpunk Scenario for TSRPG)

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Krampusnacht: Night of the Krampus! (An Orphanpunk Scenario for TSRPG)

Krampusnacht: Night of the Krampus! (An Orphanpunk Scenario for TSRPG) is a role playing game supplement published by Skirmisher Publishing for use with TSRPG.

The supplement is available as a 36-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $3.99 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter and one is ads.

Krampusnacht: Night of the Krampus! (An Orphanpunk Scenario for TSRPG)Krampusnacht: Night of the Krampus! explains that this is designed for 3-5 players and is in three acts which will take a couple of 2–3-hour sessions, though parts of Act 2 can be skipped to make it shorter.

The Krampus! gives some details on Krampus, for those unfamiliar with the being.

What This Adventure is Not explains it doesn’t have detailed city descriptions, can be set anywhere, is not an accurate representation of life – the characters have superpowers – and though superhero children are the protagonists, it isn’t really suitable for children.

Level of Lethality explains that though there are monsters, whether or not anyone dies is up to the GM.

Act 1: Have You Been Good Little Boys & Girls? has the characters at a community centre when St. Nicholas (the real one) visits. Krampus took offence to this and evil-ized the staff and turkey. The presents from St. Nicholas are boxes that contain something that grants the characters superpowers. The end of this act explains how Challenges work in TSRPG.

Act 2: It’s Krampusnacht, Tonight! has the characters investigating to find out what is going on. There are a number of encounters, some optional, including one with children given powers by Krampus.

Act 3: Krampusnachtocalypse! is the final confrontation and attempt to stop a ritual. Success results in Krampus being banished.

Appendix: The Kinder has details on the supervillain children created by Krampus. Finally, there are stats for the characters, in both normal and superhero forms.

A separate, two-page PDF has the TSRPG Basic Rules.

Krampusnacht: Night of the Krampus! (An Orphanpunk Scenario for TSRPG) in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with major and minor sections linked. Navigation is decent. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a variety of colour illustrations which appear to be custom. Presentation is good.

This is essentially a superhero adventure, one taking its inspiration from the Krampus myth, and it’s quite a long one for TSRPG. The inclusion of the TSRPG Basic Rules means that there is enough to create other adventures for the game. Krampusnacht: Night of the Krampus! (An Orphanpunk Scenario for TSRPG) is a different adventure and it can be found by clicking here.
