Islands in the Sky

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Islands in the Sky

Islands in the Sky by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with Cepheus Engine. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a 19 page Pay What You Want PDF on DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three are the front matter and three the Open Game License.

Islands in the SkyThe opening paragraphs explain that there has been a recent discovery on a water world – the adventure is set in the Frontiers of Space, though this isn’t stated – namely, islands floating in the sky. The characters are hired to investigate them.

Mission Objectives lists the various goals the characters are hired to pursue.

Urnadkapus gives an overview of the planet in question.

The Patron gives details on them.

Complications are the problems the characters can encounter; their patron isn’t lying to them about important mission data for once.

Islands in the Sky Key details the different islands and the locations.

Conditions for Success explains these.

There is a map of the islands.

Islands in the Sky in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that they would have been useful. Navigation is poor. The text maintains a single column format and a number of minor errors were noticed. There are no illustrations bar the map and covers. Presentation is adequate.

This is a dangerous adventure. Characters are on islands in the sky on a stormy planet far too high up to survive a fall without some means of flying or landing safely. In addition, the islands are going to fall unless something is fixed, and characters may not discover that in time, making it potentially too deadly. GMs may wish to take this into account before running the adventure. Islands in the Sky can be found by clicking here.
