Gregorius21778: The Troll of Njernheim

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Gregorius21778: The Troll of Njernheim

Gregorius21778: The Troll of Njernheim is a role playing game supplement written and published by Kai Pütz a.k.a Gregorius21778 for use with MÖRK BORG.

The supplement is available as a 12-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $1 but was purchased at a reduced price during a sale. One page is the front cover and half is the front matter.

The introductory paragraph explains this is a small adventure about an isolated village, and the characters dealing with a troll for a reward.

Gregorius21778: The Troll of NjernheimThe Synopsis explains that the characters arrive at the village and are offered a reward for slaying a troll that recently attacked and bringing back proof; the current headman is dead, his wife is running things whilst their son is elsewhere. There are four hooks to get the characters there.

Njernheim describes the village, explains how it was recently attacked by a troll, then more recently by goblins which are currently being hunted. There’s a price list for goods and services.

Important NPC lists notable NPCs for the village, including the dead headman.

Arrival in Njernheim has the characters arrive, be greeted, and asked to hunt the troll, with various rewards offered.

Preparations for the Hunt are what the characters can do to get ready.

Into the Forest is the actual hunt; there are several mandatory encounters and some random ones.

Return to Njernheim is what happens when the characters get back. The headman’s son has returned and taken over, and if his mother offered some of his father’s possessions as a reward for killing the troll, he isn’t happy and may well start a fight.

Gregorius21778: The Troll of Njernheim in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with major sections linked. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a two-column format and some minor errors were noticed. There are a number of stock black and white illustrations. Presentation is decent.

This is a fairly straightforward adventure, though given the system that doesn’t mean it’s safe. It should also be comparatively easy to adapt it to other lighter systems too. It’s not merely the hunt for the troll that poses a danger, but the potential reaction of the new headman; the characters could easily end up in a fight if they were promised a reward that he doesn’t want to give. Gregorius21778: The Troll of Njernheim is a decent little adventure and it can be found by clicking here.
