Gregorius21778: The Pilgrimage of Hunger

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Gregorius21778: The Pilgrimage of Hunger

Gregorius21778: The Pilgrimage of Hunger is a role playing game supplement written and published by Kai Pütz a.k.a Gregorius21778 for use with Lamentations of the Flame Princess. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. This is an addition for Veins of the Earth.

The supplement is available as a 17 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover, half a page is the front matter and one is the Open Game License.

The supplement starts with a simple sketch showing the various locations in the Pilgrimage and how they are connected.

Gregorius21778: The Pilgrimage of HungerHow to use this place: explains that the Chapel of Starvation came into being in response to the hunger of the Veins. When it comes to using the area in another setting, there are some suggestions as to an entrance.

The game inside the Pilgrimage: explains about how the darkness behaves and the different routes and travel times.

Random Encounters: explains when to roll and what could appear.

The different locations in the Pilgrimage are then detailed. Each is described, along with its connections, and sometimes what will be encountered on certain random encounters.

The Routes between the Caves explains how they are connected.

Pilgrims & Other Encounters are pilgrims and predators who could be encountered, which are detailed.

New Monster: Deepcave Bats is a new creature.

Gregorius21778: The Pilgrimage of Hunger in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and has enough content that these would have been useful. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a two-column format and some minor errors were noticed. There are a few stock black and white illustrations. Presentation is okay.

Though it’s suggested that the adventure could be used in other settings, Veins of the Earth is still needed really, as there are many references to that supplement. Without that, substitutions will need to be made for various creatures. Overall, this will probably work best as an expansion to Veins of the Earth; using it elsewhere would probably involve too much tweaking. Gregorius21778: The Pilgrimage of Hunger is a decent and inexpensive – given that it can be downloaded for free – addition to Veins of the Earth and it can be found by clicking here.
