Gregorius21778: 50 Ideas for Enchanted Modern Firearms

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Gregorius21778: 50 Ideas for Enchanted Modern Firearms

Gregorius21778: 50 Ideas for Enchanted Modern Firearms is a role playing game supplement published by Kai Pütz a.k.a Gregorius21778 that is intended for use with OSR systems.

This is a nine-page PDF that is available from DriveThruRPG for $0.50 but was received for free thanks to a special offer. One page is the front cover and around a half of a page is the front matter.

Gregorius21778: 50 Ideas for Enchanted Modern FirearmsThe introductory paragraphs explain that this supplement has 50 different enchanted firearms, suitable for OSR games. There are no stats, only the game effects, and Labyrinth Lord was used as a reference for spells.

The 50 firearms are then listed. Each follows a common layout; name, type of gun to be used with (such as scoped weapons, guns with ammo clips, automatic weapons etc,) and a description as to the game effects. Effects vary from never being surprised during sleep, someone shot being unable to be brought back from the dead (rather overpowered, but perhaps a wish could counteract it), the gun spitting flames, a shapechanging weapon and many more.

The PDF lacks bookmarks and, given its length and layout, doesn’t need them. Navigation is fine. The text maintains a single column black and white layout and appeared to be nearly free of problems. There are a few appropriate stock images of guns. Presentation is okay.

The supplement may have a Labyrinth Lord logo, but it is, as mentioned, free of stats. Labyrinth Lord was merely used for the spells that provided the inspiration behind the different, making this more of a system-neutral book. Though it says it can be used in any OSR RPG with guns and wizardry, it could actually be used in any RPG with guns and wizardry, not just OSR ones, and some of the enchantments could be used in old firearms, not just modern ones; only the enchantments requiring such as magazines and automatic fire would have problems. This means the supplement is more versatile than it suggests. Most of the effects are useful, but a GM should ensure that some of them aren’t overpowered. It will require a bit of work to make the supplement explicitly work with any game system, but not too much. Gregorius21778: 50 Ideas for Enchanted Modern Firearms is a nice, varied collection of firearm ideas at an extremely cheap price and it can be found by clicking here.
