Gedan Earthmaster Site

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Gedan Earthmaster Site

Gedan Earthmaster Site by Brian Clemens, Edwin King and Rob Barnes is a role playing game supplement published by Columbia Games Inc. for use with Hârn and HârnMaster.

The supplement is available as a 14-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $11.99 but was purchased at a reduced price thanks to a special offer.

The introductory paragraph explains that the site is in eastern Orbaal and was used by the Jarin as a burial ground.

Gedan Earthmaster SiteHistory explains that the Earthmasters placed a Godstone at the site, and it remained uninhabited after their departure until the Jarin moved into the location. They considered the area holy and used it for barrows. More recently, a religious order was established at the site, but was annihilated by gargun after less than a decade.

Current Situation explains that the religious order was refounded and that the location is now associated with the Jarin resistance, who launch attacks against the Ivinians.

Elorna Hills gives some details on the hills and the tribe called the Anoa who live in them. A sidebar looks at the tribes of gargun in the hills and the Anoa.

A full-page labelled colour map of the region is followed by details of the locations on the map and the inhabitants, which include an Ivashu, and a small map of a gargun lair.

Order of Chuchlaen Wheelwright covers the new incarnation of the religious order and its association with the Jarin rebels led by Gweffryn Seylnes, who captured Lorkin during the rebellion, and a sidebar details the current leader. The temple of the order is mapped and detailed.

Aenghysa covers the Jarin rebels who are based in the area and their history, and sidebars cover their leader and agents they have in other locations.

Cheyn Mhic Cainte is another group of Jarin rebels, though one more concerned with killing other Jarin they believe have betrayed their people, than the Ivinians, and a sidebar covers their leader. Both groups believe they need each other.

Aenghysa Complex maps and details their base of operations and a sidebar has adventure hooks.

Next is a page with an excerpt from Atlas Hârnica Map J2, showing Gedan’s location, a map of Hârn, again with Gedan’s location marked, and a list of related products.

The final page has an unlabelled players’ map of the area.

Gedan Earthmaster Site in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that these would have been useful. Navigation could be better. The text is either single column with sidebar or two column and appeared to be free of errors. As well as the various maps, there are also a few colour and black and white illustrations. Presentation is decent.

As with many Hârn supplements, this one lacks HârnMaster stats and is easy enough to use with any system. Though it could be dropped into other settings as well, it is perhaps a little too tightly tied to Hârn to make this completely easy, though it still can be done; the Jarin can become rebels for the setting and things such as the Godstone could be altered. Gedan Earthmaster Site is a decent little supplement and it can be found by clicking here.
