Four Horsemen Present: Gruesome Oozes by Stephen Rowe is a role playing game supplement published by Rogue Genius Games and The Four Horsemen for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.
The supplement is available as a 13-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $3.95 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the front cover and one the Credits and Open Game License.
Gruesome Oozes explains that this line is intended to create new ideas for monsters, and that this one covers oozes, with different templates and ideas from different sources. It then explains that oozes crop up from time to time but aren’t that exciting, being amorphous creatures that do some specific material-related damage.
Creating Gruesome Oozes states that making one just requires using one of the templates provided, then goes into more detail about what each template section means.
Gruesome Ooze Templates then covers the new oozes; each has an example monster and then a template.
The Intruder is a carnivorous blob from outside normal reality, with a CR+2 template. The creature can go through anything and physics breaks down around them.
The Emulation takes over other creatures, with a CR+2 template.
The Exponential is an ooze that splits, but each ooze is just as dangerous as the original, with a CR+1 template.
The Hive Mind is a mythic ooze with CR+1/2 mythic rank that shares a hive mind.
Four Horsemen Present: Gruesome Oozes in Review
The PDF is bookmarked with major and minor sections linked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of colour illustrations that are probably custom. Presentation is decent.
Oozes, slimes and the like are a staple of D&D-derived games but, as stated, they are rarely that different. They are known threats and even dangerous ones are dangerous in a specific area. The oozes in this supplement are far more dangerous with new abilities, and not only are there four new creatures, there are four new templates to make other oozes like them.
