Faces of the Tarnished Souk: Vhulgus Sangrevorro, the Endless Dandy (PFRPG)

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Faces of the Tarnished Souk: Vhulgus Sangrevorro, the Endless Dandy (PFRPG)

Faces of the Tarnished Souk: Vhulgus Sangrevorro, the Endless Dandy (PFRPG) by Matt Banach and Justin Sluder is a role playing game supplement published by Rite Publishing for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. This is a single NPC at three different CRs.

The supplement is available as a 25-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $2.95 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the front cover, one the front matter, one the Open Game License and two pages are ads.

Vhulgus Sangrevorro, the Endless Dandy starts with some background of this unusual creature, an impeccably dressed crafter of fine clothing and wearables who is also essentially a very big leech. Vhulgus has a wide range of knowledge, due to being a regular traveller, as well as being diplomatic but with a sense of humour. Dreamburning, lore and using Vhulgus in-game are also covered.

Faces of the Tarnished Souk: Vhulgus Sangrevorro, the Endless Dandy (PFRPG)The three different versions follow, arranged in the book from high to low CR. Each also has the option of an adaptable variant.

The CR 7 version is an eternal verminoid giant leech transmuter 4.

The CR 13 version is an eternal rune-carved verminoid giant leech transmuter 8.

The CR 19 version is an eternal rune-carved trickster verminoid giant leech transmuter 13.

Three new feats, that improve crafting and casting are followed by a new spell, with two versions, that makes clothing remain free of blood by teleporting it elsewhere. There are magic weapon enhancements, followed by some new magic items, including a weapon that sunders clothing and armour. As Vhulgus is an expert crater of magical clothing, he has a fine selection.

Templates are adaptable creature, which allows the creature to rapidly adapt to environments and threats, eternal creature which allows the creature to be, well, eternal, rune-carved creature, which creatures have runes carved into them, trickster creature, who mocks authority and verminoid creature, which are vermin with humanoid bodies and intelligence and there’s also a spell to create one.

Faces of the Tarnished Souk: Vhulgus Sangrevorro, the Endless Dandy (PFRPG) in Review

The PDF is bookmarked, with major and minor sections linked, though some of the bookmarks point to the wrong locations. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. As well as the cover illustration, there are a number of black and white probably stock images. Presentation is decent.

Vhulgus is an interesting creature. Despite him being a giant leech in human form, he’s also pretty friendly and could be a useful ally and supplier of magical clothing. Though he may not be normally hostile, this doesn’t mean he is a pushover in a fight; Vhulgus has a range of abilities and spells as well as a lot of magical clothing and a sword that can divest PCs of their own clothing and armour. Attacking him would be a mistake. Faces of the Tarnished Souk: Vhulgus Sangrevorro, the Endless Dandy (PFRPG) is another interesting NPC in the series and can be found by clicking here.
