A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Everyman Minis: Pumpkin Kami

Everyman Minis: Pumpkin Kami by Luis Loza is a role playing game supplement published by Everyman Gaming and Rogue Genius Games for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a nine-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $2.95 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the front cover, one the front matter and four the Open Game License and an ad.

Everyman Minis: Pumpkin KamiThe first page of content has a standard piece of text about the Everyman Minis range, and a new magic item. The item, the costumed confection, is associated with the kabochahito, and takes the form of sweets. There are three possible effects on consumption; changing the appearance of the consumer’s clothing and equipment, changing the physical form to a humanoid or monstrous humanoid or appearing as a younger version of the consumer.

Kami, Kabochahito is a new creature, a CR 7 being that takes the form of a pumpkin-headed vine bundle. And, unlike pretty much every other pumpkin creature around, it isn’t evil, but is in fact good. The kabochahito can conjure the magical sweets, swallow beings and transform them and beings so transformed are unremarkable to others, as well as create a ward, grow plants and merge with pumpkin armour. The details on the kabochahito are extensive, describing their behaviour and when they are active.

The PDF lacks bookmarks but doesn’t really need them at this length. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be almost free of errors. There are a couple of pieces of stock art, plus the cover, which were probably originally done for this supplement. Presentation is decent.

This is a Halloween release and quite clearly is associated with that; the costumed confection is a magical way of dressing up for Halloween and the kami itself is most active around that time of year, likes watching kids dress up in costumes and is generally a friendly creature. It can be annoyed, though, if someone tries hard enough. Everyman Minis: Pumpkin Kami has an interesting variation on the traditional pumpkin monster and it can be found by clicking here.
