Everyman Minis: Mystic Scrivener

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Everyman Minis: Mystic Scrivener

Everyman Minis: Mystic Scrivener by Matt Morris is a role playing game supplement published by Everyman Gaming and Rogue Genius Games for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a seven-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $2.95 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the front cover, one the front matter, two are the Open Game License and an ad and one is an ad.

Everyman Minis: Mystic ScrivenerThe first page of content has a standard piece of text about the Everyman Minis range.

The Mystic Universe explains that mystic scriveners view the cosmos in terms of energy and believe that every cosmic concept is symbolised by a runic representation in a single word. They can draw upon this Language of Creation to produce potent magical effects.

New Archetype is the mystic scrivener, which is an archetype for investigators. They understand the language of existence and gain a competence bonus in Linguistics and Profession (scribe) checks not Craft (alchemy). The mystic scrivener can use arcane mark as a spell like ability and their extracts take the form of phrases inscribed onto small baubles.

At 1st level, the archetype gains Esoteric Linguistics and Psychic Sensitivity as bonus feats.

The archetype has a number of talents to draw from, as well as the standard investigator ones. They can choose an appropriate spell and add it as a formula, draw a sigil that has the second function of a protection from evil spell, can animate constructs with talismans not arcane magic, can have a prophetic dream, can gain Scribe Scroll as a bonus feat and can gain the voice of the grave mystery revelation.

The mystic scrivener can also draw magic circles and call outsider to them.

The PDF lacks bookmarks and given its length doesn’t need them. Navigation is fine. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There is a single colour illustration, taken from the cover. Presentation is fine.

This is a nice little archetype for the investigator, adding a bunch of options that are thematically appropriate and make it that bit different. Everyman Minis: Mystic Scrivener can be found by clicking here.
