A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Everyman Minis: Malborgoroth

Everyman Minis: Malborgoroth by Alexander Augunas is a role playing game supplement published by Everyman Gaming through Rogue Genius Games for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. This is a bestiary covering a single monster.

This is an eight-page PDF that is available from DriveThruRPG for $1.95 but was purchased at a greatly reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the front cover, one the front matter, two pages are the Open Game License and one page is an ad.

Everyman Minis: MalborgorothThe first page of content has a standard introduction to the Everyman Minis range accompanied by What is a Malborgoroth? This explains that the primary influence for the creature is the flumph, for many years considered a rather silly monster but, in Pathfinder, cast as a protector against Lovecraftian cosmic horrors. However, those who stand against such monsters often become a monster themselves. Another, unnamed, influence would appear to be the Malboro from Final Fantasy.

The malborgoroth can inject acid into a victim, breath a cloud of magical toxins that warp bodies, belch corrosive, sticky acid, perform an action like black tentacles, poison victims and fly among the stars. It is a CR 13 monster and quite dangerous. There is an extensive section giving details on how flumphs became twisted and convinced that the victory of the Great Old Ones was inevitable. They can no longer talk, but can still understand language. There are also a couple of variants.

Everyman Minis: Malborgoroth in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and, at this length with a single monster, doesn’t need them. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There is a single illustration, of the malborgoroth, which is what is really needed for a bestiary. Presentation is good.

This short supplement provides a single, well-detailed monster. The background of the monster is extensively described and it has a wide range of abilities. At full price, it might seem a little expensive, as it could perhaps do with some more overt adventure hooks. Everyman Minis: Malborgoroth is still a nicely-executed monster and it can be found by clicking here.
