Escorsen's Hermitage

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Escorsen’s Hermitage

Escorsen’s Hermitage by Richard Porter and Tim Finnegan is a role playing game supplement published by Columbia Games Inc. for use with Hârn and HârnMaster.

The supplement is available as a 6-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $4.99 but was purchased at a reduced price thanks to a special discount.

Escorsen's HermitageThe first page of content gives an overview of Escorsen and his location on the Island of Melderyn; he also periodically visits Cherafir. Not everything about the hermit is as it seems.

The second page has a labelled GM map of the area.

The various locations on this map are detailed on the next page.

Escorsen of Tenir gives a history of the NPC and details on them and their goals, and the sidebar has HârnMaster stats.

Following this, the next page is a map of Hârn with the hermitage’s location marked, a higher detail map that covers part of the Melderyn Kingdom map with the hermitage marked and a list of related products.

The final page is a player map, which is identical to the GM’s but not labelled.

Escorsen’s Hermitage in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is short enough that these are not needed. Navigation is okay. The text is either single column with sidebar or two column and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of colour illustrations, mostly maps. Presentation is decent.

This supplement covers a single, out of the way, location, and the NPC that can be found there. There are a number of potential adventure hooks and the NPC has secrets that are not publicly known. Though this supplement does have HârnMaster stats, they are just for the NPC and could be swapped for another system. It should be possible to use the supplement with another setting, too, though various references such as gods would need swapping out. Escorsen’s Hermitage is a decent little supplement, but rather expensive at full price, and it can be found by clicking here.
