Corporate Politics

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Corporate Politics

Corporate Politics by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with Cepheus Engine. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a 14 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter and three the Open Game License.

Corporate PoliticsThe opening paragraphs explain that megacorporation employees in the Sonora sector – the adventure is set in the Frontiers of Space – find it difficult to move up the corporate ladder, as the sector is considered a backwater and anyone stationed there must be poor at their job. One such employee has decided he wants to move up the corporate ladder, and wants to hire the characters to help him by killing his boss, then future bosses.

The Patron has details on the would-be ladder climber.

Complications have things that go wrong; for one thing, many of the superiors got their jobs the same way.

His Bosses and Future Bosses has stats for the current target and future ones.

Promotion Opportunities has modifiers to see if the patron gets promoted each time there’s a murder.

Suspicions Aroused is the chance that the murders become suspicious.

Questioning of Leo Davis is the chance that the patron will be questioned.

Questioning is basic questioning of Davis.

Hard Questioning is what happens if more physical means of questioning Davis are used.

Breaking Under Questioning is what happens if, or more likely when, Davis breaks.

Mission Completion Objectives are how to succeed.

Corporate Politics in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and, though short, has enough different sections that these would have been useful. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a single column format and appeared to be free of errors. Bar the covers, there are no illustrations. Presentation is adequate.

The biggest problem with this adventure is, of course, that the characters are being hired to commit a bunch of murders. There’s a good chance they will have a problem with this. Some may just shop Davis to the authorities immediately; no consideration has been given should this happen. In addition, the only details on doing the murders are some stats; the GM will need to flesh them out more than a little. Corporate Politics is an adventure that is only really suitable for more ethically challenged characters and it can be found by clicking here.
