A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Adventures in Bayhaven – Trouble in the Forest

Adventures in Bayhaven – Trouble in the Forest by Brian Benoit is a role playing game supplement published by Roving Band of Misfits Press for use with the Hero Kids system. This is an adventure set in the publisher’s town of Bayhaven.

This is an 18 page PDF which is available from RPGNow for $2.99 but was purchased at the reduced price of $1.50 as part of the Adventures in Bayhaven Ultimate Bundle. One page is the front cover and one page the front matter.

The first page is the standard one explaining what is needed to play, what is useful to play, how to use the adventure and the optional Time Units rule, which results in players either failing to complete or complete fully the adventure if they run out of time.

The next page is also standard, giving the background to Bayhaven, background to the adventure, a synopsis of the adventure and what could come next.

There are four encounters; the first sees the characters dealing with killer bunnies, the next with fire breathing deer and the next has them discover a magical rift, the source of all these problems, and heading in to town to find out how to deal with it. The final encounter deals with closing the rift whilst under attack by corrupted wildlife.

There is then a page with a map of Bayhaven with the relevant locations marked, three new monster cards with minis and three battlemaps that appear to have been drawn in coloured pencil.

Adventures in Bayhaven – Trouble in the Forest in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and, despite its length, these would have been useful. Navigation is below average. The text maintains a two column format and no errors were noticed. There is only one illustration other than monster images and battlemaps, but those make presentation above average.

This adventure is primarily a series of combat encounters, with a diversion to work out how to fix the rift. The encounters can be scaled depending on the number of characters, which is useful.
