A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement 50 Excellent Emporiums

50 Excellent Emporiums by Brian Berg, James Duffie and Matt Everhart is a role playing game supplement published by Total Party Kill Games. The supplement is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

50 Excellent EmporiumsThe supplement is available as a 13-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $2.99 but was purchased at a reduced price during a sale. One page is the front cover, one the front matter, two and a half pages are ads and one page is the Open Game License.

The supplement starts with a list of the 50 shops by name before moving on to cover them. Each shop is given a name, a brief description, its speciality and, in most but not all cases, a description of the senses. The shops cover a range of types, many dealing in magical goods and services and some in illegal ones.

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is of a length and type that these are not needed. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a two-column format and some minor errors were noticed. There are no illustrations bar the cover, ads and page background. Presentation is okay.

None of the shops are covered in a great deal of detail; there are no definite lists of stock or services, only suggestions for such. There are a few potential adventure hooks within the different shops. Though the supplement is covered by the Open Game License, it is practically system-neutral, as there are no game stats and the only system-specific things are a few races mentioned. As such, it should easily slot into most high magic games and settings, though a bit of work will be needed to flesh out the shops more. It’s not clear why a handful of shops lack the “Senses” category that others do; this comes across more as a mistake than something done intentionally. 50 Excellent Emporiums can be found by clicking here.
