A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement #1 With a Bullet Point: 3 New Supernatural Monster Abilities

#1 With a Bullet Point: 3 New Supernatural Monster Abilities by Owen K.C. Stephens is a role playing game supplement published by Rogue Genius Games (originally Super Genius Games) for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a three-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $1 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a bundle. One page is the Open Game License and credits.

The first page has some standard text for the #1 With a Bullet Point range explaining the philosophy and what the supplements contain.

The second page has the actual content. This starts with a single paragraph explaining that supernatural abilities allow a monster to be customised by adding them, and that each has game mechanics and CR modifier.

The three abilities follow. Beguiling Voice has an effect similar to charm monster and is more effective for monsters with higher Charismas. Camouflage allows a creature to change colour to match its surroundings perfectly. Though not stated, this presumably doesn’t work for monsters wearing clothes. Spells and abilities that allow the invisible to be seen have no effect, as the creature is not invisible, but those that make the invisible visible do work. Finally, Doubling Regeneration results in two limbs growing back when one is severed; similar to a hydra’s ability to grow more heads.

The PDF lacks bookmarks and with only one page of content doesn’t need them. Navigation is fine. The text maintains Super Genius Games’ old three column landscape format and appeared to be free of errors. There are three pieces of black and white stock art. Presentation is fine.

This supplement does exactly what it states; describes three new supernatural abilities that can customise monsters. The abilities are decent, though, as stated, the wording for camouflage could possibly have been better. #1 With a Bullet Point: 3 New Supernatural Monster Abilities is a decent little supplement and it can be found by clicking here.
