Trouble in Waterlily by Kenny Goff is a free role playing game supplement Sidequesters Club for use with Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition.
The supplement is available as a 12-page PDF for free from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover, one the Contents and one the Credits. There is also a markdown version of the supplement. A zip file contains two PNGs, labelled and unlabelled versions of the map.
The Introduction starts by explaining that this is a beginner friendly adventure and what it contains. It explains the structure of the parts and how the two parts should be paced. It gives an overview of 12-page the current situation and how the local woods show signs of necrotic magic creeping in. The adventure hooks aren’t really beyond saying this should be after their successful first job. Finally, there are some important NPCs.
Part I: Waterlily has the village itself, with overviews of the important locations, NPCs and the attack that is the focus of the part.
Part II: Everlong Wood covers the nearby wood with some more NPCs, monsters and rumours to hear.
Part III: The Tomb of Galanodel covers the tomb itself with the various details.
Conclusion wraps things up with the various rewards the characters can get.
Trouble in Waterlily in Review
The PDF is bookmarked with major sections linked, though there are some errors. The Contents is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is decent. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of stock colour and primarily black and white illustrations, as well as the map. Presentation is good.
Rumble at the Hog & Hound suggests that this adventure follow that one, and that can indeed be done. The village is small enough that it could probably be dropped into most settings without too much trouble, and if the wood is small enough, that shouldn’t be a problem either. Trouble in Waterlily is a reasonable little adventure and it can be downloaded for free by clicking here.
