The Shambles by Day Mini-Eventure by Creighton Broadhurst is a role playing game supplement published by Raging Swan Press. The supplement comes in four different versions, OSR, Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Pathfinder 2 and Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition, and as such is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.
The supplement is available for free from DriveThruRPG. Each of the four different versions has eight pages, with two being the front and back covers, two being ads, part of one being the front matter and Contents and one the Open Game License.
What’s a Mini-Eventure? explains that unlike normal adventures, eventures don’t have much combat and instead rely on social skills and roleplay. It explains that this can be used to add details to the exploration of Languard, a city in the Duchy of Ashlar setting.
The rest of the supplement is comprised of lists. There is little difference between the four versions of the supplement, just some minor tweaking of game language where needed.
The Shambles explains where the, poor, district lies in Languard and its general construction. It then explains that by day it is a hive of activity.
Folk Out & About has six NPCs given names, alignment, class, level, race and sex, and a short description.
Locales of Interest has six different locations, named and briefly described.
What’s Going On? has six events given a name and a description.
Opportunities & Complications has six potential adventure hooks.
Whispers & Rumours has six rumours to hear.
The Shambles by Day Mini-Eventure in Review
The PDF is bookmarked with the various sections linked. The Contents is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There is a single black and white illustration. Presentation is okay.
This is basically a two-page supplement with five d6 tables that can be used to enliven a city district, and most of the results can easily be used in any city district of a generally poorer nature, making this more broadly useful. Even though it’s technically converted into four different systems, the supplement as a whole is nearly system neutral, making it more generically useful. The Shambles by Day Mini-Eventure is a useful little supplement and it can be downloaded for free by clicking here.
