Rumble at the Hog & Hound by Kenny Goff is a free role playing game supplement Sidequesters Club for use with Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition.
The supplement is available for free as a ten-page PDF from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover, one the Contents and one the Credits. There is also a markdown version of the supplement and two png files, labelled and unlabelled versions of a map.
The Introduction starts by explaining that this is a starting adventure for new players and GMs for 1st level characters. It gives the structure, how long it should take to play, the background, an overview of the adventure, three adventure hooks and details on various important NPCs.
Part I: Ruffians in Brackleby has the characters in the town. There are tables for randomly generating townsfolk, the nicknames of the Ruff Boys who are causing trouble and rumours, before the characters end up clashing with the Ruff Boys.
Part II: Infiltrating the Tavern has the characters heading into the headquarters of the Ruff Boys. The various locations are described.
Conclusion looks at the rewards the characters can get for success and how Trouble in Waterlily can continue the adventure.
Appendix A: Monsters has stats for the main foe.
Appendix B: Magic Items has a single magic item.
Appendix C: Maps has a map of the Hog & Hound.
Rumble at the Hog & Hound in Review
The PDF is bookmarked with major sections linked, though there are some errors. The Contents is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is decent. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of stock colour and primarily black and white illustrations, as well as the map. Presentation is good.
This is a simple enough starter adventure, and it could probably be dropped into many campaign settings without too much trouble. Though it is technically set in a specific town, the town isn’t described and so it could be transplanted to another town, though it would need to be somewhere small enough for a gang of toughs to cause problems.
