Urban Locale #06: General Store by Robert Manson is a generic role playing game supplement published by Raging Swan Press.
The supplement is available as a 3-page PDF for $1.75 from DriveThruRPG but was purchased at a reduced price thanks to a special offer. The supplement comes in two versions, a plaintext file and a PDF. About half a page is the front matter and Contents; somewhat oddly, the only PDF is the unplugged version, without the covers and ads. Not that this means any content is missing; it’s just not the usual thing.
Using this Urban Locale is a standard piece explaining how to use the lists and what each list covers. This is followed by a brief paragraph on general stores, then the d10 lists.
1: The General Store has ten different stores named and described, with the owner being named as well as giving their alignment, species and sex.
2: Major Locale Features has major pieces of dressing for the shop, some of which help determine its location or its activities.
3: Minor Locale Features covers more minor pieces of dressing.
4: What’s Going On? has ten things that may be happening.
5: Visitors and Customers has ten NPCs to encounter each given a name, alignment, age, sex and species along with a brief description.
6. What’s For Sale has ten things to buy, mostly goods but one service, most with prices.
Urban Locale #06: General Store in Review
The PDF is bookmarked with the various sections linked. The Contents is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are no illustrations. Presentation is adequate.
This is a more thematic entry in the series, with it definitely being suited for general stores. Perhaps a little more development will be needed, such as lists of more general goods to be found for sale, but most stores such as this will in general have items from general equipment lists, so that’s not hard to do.
