The Temple of Erses

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement The Temple of Erses

The Temple of Erses by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a 24 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter and three the Open Game License.

The Temple of ErsesThe opening paragraphs talk about an old temple overlooking a village. The ruins have stood for centuries, but recently strange sightings have been seen. There have also been attacks on caravans in the region, and the village is suffering.

For the Dungeon Master explains that the adventure has no designated levels, but the most dangerous potential foe is an adult white dragon, and characters should be able to beat such, but not easily. Stat blocks and DCs are also mentioned.

The Village has a short paragraph on the place.

Rumors has a d10 table of such, marked as true or false.

Climbing the Mountain covers the trail from the village.

Random Encounters has such for on the trail and at the ruins.

Key to the Ruins describes the above and below ground parts of the ruins, a standard collection of monsters and traps.

Statistic Blocks has the stats for the various creatures.

The final page of content has a map of the ruins.

The Temple of Erses in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that these would have been useful. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. Bar the map and covers, there are no illustrations. Presentation is okay.

This is a pretty standard adventure in its general makeup, but it has the potential to be highly dangerous if the characters are ill-equipped to deal with the dragon. The GM should be careful to ensure that the dragon is not completely beyond their capabilities. The Temple of Erses can be found by clicking here.
