The Stonehill Ruins

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement The Stonehill Ruins

The Stonehill Ruins by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with Swords & Wizardry. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a 12 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter and two the Open Game License.

The Stonehill RuinsThe opening paragraphs talk about the ruins which have stood above the village since before there was a village, and that recently there has been word of goblins raiding and caravans being attacked.

For the Game Master explains that this is intended as a starter or low-level adventure and that no map of the village is provided. There could also be a map to a dungeon placed below the ruins.

Rumors Around the Village has six rumours, some true, some false, one a mix of both.

Key to the Stonehill Keep details the small number of locations in the ruins.

The final page of content has a map of the ruins.

The Stonehill Ruins in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is comparatively short so they are not essential but would have been appreciated. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. Bar the map and covers, there are no illustrations. Presentation is okay.

This is as it is designed to be; a short, simple, low-level adventure, though one that still has dangers. It can also, as suggested, be expanded with an underground area should such be desired. The Stonehill Ruins can be found by clicking here.
