The Selkie Envoy: An Ironsworn Adventure

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement The Selkie Envoy: An Ironsworn Adventure

The Selkie Envoy: An Ironsworn Adventure by Chihuahua Zero is a role playing game supplement published by chihuahuazero for use with Ironsworn.

The supplement is available as a 20-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $4.99 but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the front cover, one the front matter, one the Table of Contents, one is Content Notes, one is Acknowledgements and links and one is End Matter.

The Selkie Envoy: An Ironsworn AdventureThe Introduction explains that one of the villagers of Stormlook has gone missing and their fish stocks are dwindling. The local selkies are being blamed. The character forges a vow with the village’s overseer to make contact with the selkies and hopefully fix the situation before it turns violent.

Module Overview explains that this is an adventure written for characters of any level and should take 3-4 hours and it gives an overview of the chapters.

On Player Terminology explains this and that the adventure assumes a solo player, though it could be run in other ways.

On Ironwsworn Delve explains that the module assumes Delve is being used though substitutions are provided if it isn’t available.

Background explains this takes place in the Barrier Islands and it starts in the village of Stormbrook. Despite the selkies being local, contact hasn’t been made as yet; the selkies have lived there longer than the humans.

Suggestions for Your Truths explains Firstborn is needed and Beasts and Horrors are recommended.

Adventure Hooks has ways to get the character involved.

Dramatis Personae has a list of the NPCs.

Chapter 1: Stormlook starts the adventure in the village. The settlement is described along with important locations and the NPCs found at them, and what they know and want.

Chapter 2: Captiva covers the area of ice shelves, which is intended to be run as a Delve site; as mentioned, there is an alternative if Delve isn’t owned. Two new denizens are given.

Chapter 3: Selfen covers the selkie settlement, with locations, NPCs and what they want and know. The character will then head back to Stormlook with, hopefully, a non-violent solution.

The Selkie Envoy: An Ironsworn Adventure in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with major and minor sections linked to a great deal of depth. The Table of Contents just covers the major sections and is hyperlinked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a single column format and appeared to be free of errors. Bar the cover, there are no illustrations. Presentation is adequate.

This is a decent adventure for Ironsworn, though those unfamiliar with that game may find it unusual, as Ironsworn is more heavily driven by narrative. It takes place in the Ironsworn setting, too, making it easy to drop in, though it can be used in any similar cold setting without too much trouble. Having Ironsworn Delve as well will be an advantage. The Selkie Envoy: An Ironsworn Adventure can be found by clicking here.
