The Pageant of Everlasting Glory

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement The Pageant of Everlasting Glory

The Pageant of Everlasting Glory by Naomi Doran is a role playing game supplement published by Ulisses Spiele through the Ulisses Spiele Scriptorium Community Content Programme for use with Fading Suns.

The supplement is available as a 15 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover, one the front matter and one the Contents.

The Pageant of Everlasting GloryOf Courtesies and Hidden Rapiers… explains that with the Kurgan wars over, the Hazat’s foes are themselves and civil war is brewing. A tournament is being held in the hopes of circumventing it and the characters enter this in a political dram outline.

The Premise in the Play explains that the Hazat’s biggest hatred is reserved for their own kin. Duchess Rosalia of Hira has influenced the arrangement of a grand family gathering in hopes of preventing a potential civil war. It explains this is an outline, which has a set up for a drama that could be anything from a one shot to a campaign, and that what’s included is a suggested framework, options, scenes and supporting characters to use.

The Leading Roles has different ways the characters could be involved; as mediators, saboteurs, observers or spectators. Each explains what this would involve.

The Stage has a map of where the pageant is being held along with descriptions of the locations.

The Supporting Cast covers the various NPCs. These are divided into the conciliators, who want peace, the rivals, who most want war, the saboteurs, who seek to destroy the Hazat, and the wildcards, who could help or hinder. Each NPC is given a description.

The Scenes has a few suggested scenes for the scenario.

The Finale explains that how this unfolds is up to players and GM, and that this is a drama toolkit.

The Pageant of Everlasting Glory in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that these would have been useful. The Contents covers the various sections. Navigation is okay. The text maintains a two-column format and appeared to be free of errors. There are a number of greyscale and colour illustrations, up to full page in size, plus the map. Presentation is decent.

There are no stats for any of the NPCs, because this is intended to be usable with any edition of Fading Suns. The GM will therefore need to create these. This is, as it mentions, an outline and toolkit that provides various elements for the GM to weave into an adventure to a campaign; naturally, this will therefore require more work on the GM’s part.
