Point of No Return

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Point of No Return

Point of No Return by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with Cepheus Engine. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a 21 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter and three the Open Game License.

Point of No ReturnThe opening paragraphs explain that a ship disappeared in the Sonora sector – the adventure is set in the Frontiers of Space – and that it has recently reappeared intact. The characters are hired to investigate, bring the ship back and return any surviving crew.

Patron gives details on them.

Complications are the things that are not known, being kept from the characters or which can go wrong.

The Artifact details a strange alien artefact that the ship has onboard.

Hauntings are the strange things that can happen on the ship.

The Ships Computer explains that this mostly functions as intended.

Captains Log details the entries.

Cargo Manifest lists the cargo.

The Crew has stats for them.

Key to the Devonshire details the ship locations.

Diary Entries has a personal log.

Data Wafer is another log of sorts.

Clues are other things the characters can find.

Mission Completion Objectives are what’s needed to succeed.

The final two pages of content have colour maps of the ship.

Point of No Return in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that these would have been useful. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. Bar the maps and covers, there are no illustrations. Presentation is adequate.

This is essentially a ghost ship in space, and the characters have to figure out what’s going on. Some of the details kept from them are going to hinder their mission and make it more dangerous, though some of the most important details were not known by anyone. Point of No Return is a ghost ship adventure with a slight twist and it can be found by clicking here.
