A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement More Skills for the Frontiers of Space

More Skills for the Frontiers of Space by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with Cepheus Engine. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a 20 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. Two pages are the front and rear covers, three the front matter and three the Open Game License.

The opening paragraphs explain that whilst creating adventures the author finds a need for skills for NPCs and this is a compilation of such. It also states there may be an overlap between this and the previous supplement Skills for the Frontiers of Space (actually, Skills and Careers for the Frontiers of Space) and those from other authors.

Following this are the new skills. These are divided into the following sections: Aliens, Banking Skills, Communication Skills, Corporate Skills, Crime Solving, Cruise Ship Skills, Driving Skills, Engineering Skills, Frontier Skills, Hydrocarbons, Languages, Misc Skills, Other Business Skills, Parachuting Skills, Robotics, Science Skills, Survival, Space Station Skills, Star Port Skills, Tactics and Weapon Skills. The section on Aliens has some brief notes on the Frontiers of Space and the aliens of the sector; none of the other sections have anything similar. Most sections have several to a lot of skills, but some have less and one section only has one skill.

More Skills for the Frontiers of Space in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that these would have been useful. Navigation is adequate. The text maintains a single column format and some minor errors were noticed. Bar the covers, there are no illustrations. Presentation is adequate.

This is a collection of a lot of new skills. A few are definitely connected to the Frontiers of Space in such a way that, even with tweaking, they aren’t useful elsewhere. However, the vast majority will be useful in any setting. More Skills for the Frontiers of Space can be found by clicking here.
