Masters & Minions: Cult of the Mirrored King

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Masters & Minions: Cult of the Mirrored King

Masters & Minions: Cult of the Mirrored King by Kim Frandsen is a role playing game supplement published by Fat Goblin Games for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

The supplement is available as a 19-page PDF for $3.43 from DriveThruRPG but was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. One page is the front cover, one the front matter, one the Table of Contents and one the Open Game License.

Masters & Minions: Cult of the Mirrored KingThe Introduction explains this supplement has a band of NPCs that act in concert that could be used as rivals or antagonists, or possibly even allies or support. The groups draw more heavily on influence from comic books and action movies, adding a colourful bunch. This supplement has a group of drug dealers and cultists selling a drug that makes you dream of your innermost desires whilst also preparing your soul for sacrifice.

The Cult of the Mirrored King explains that the cult is only a few years old, founded by the Mirrored Man. It started as drug-running but has branched out into more illegal activities. Most outsiders don’t even know it is a cult, believing it is just the Masked Gang. Drugs and a protection racket, which actually does protect those who pay, are the main sources of income. They are also expanding into other regions and have aims on high society.

Members of the Organization has stats and details for various NPCs in the group. The Mirrored Man, the master of the organisation, is given the most backstory. Following this are details on two more unique NPCs. After this are the tools, stats for NPCs with specific types of role in the cult, though they are generic rather than individuals.

New Rules has details on the drug the cult sells and a unique item belonging to the Mirrored Man.

The Religion of the Mirrored King has details on the Mirrored King, a unique devil and god.

Encounters has the goals of the Mirrored Man with several different plots that are being carried out, functioning as adventure hooks.

The Master’s Lair has a brief description of the tavern that functions as the Mirrored Man’s lair, with a map of it.

Masters & Minions: Cult of the Mirrored King in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with the various sections and subsections linked, though errors were noticed in this. The Table of Contents is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column format and some minor errors were noticed. There are a number of custom colour illustrations. Presentation is good.

This is an organisation of criminals that characters could run into, and it could be dropped with little effort into many settings. The group is probably best suited for smaller cities or large towns to start with, though there could be flexibility in this; they essentially need somewhere large enough to conduct their activities and without any rival criminal groups who are much larger.
