Lizardfolk of the Dragon Fang

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Lizardfolk of the Dragon Fang

Lizardfolk of the Dragon Fang by Marc Radle is a role playing game supplement published by Raging Swan Press for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some of it is considered to be Open Game Content.

The supplement is available as a 23-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $6.99 although it was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle, with two pages being the front and rear covers, one an ad, four the front matter and Contents and one the Open Game License. The PDF comes in two versions, one intended for print and high-end devices, one intended for low-end and mobile.

Lizardfolk of the Dragon FangReading Stat Blocks is a standard page for the publisher explaining how to use these.

Lizardfolk of the Dragon Fang starts by explaining that a lizard king, leader of the Dragon Fang tribe, is a great warrior and powerful sorcerer, believes he is destined for greatness. Most of the tribe is not evil but the tribe is more militaristic and expansionistic than usual.

Ecology & Society explains the tribe consists of lizardfolk as well as troglodytes and kobolds from subjugated tribes. The leader is revered and the tribe has a tradition of eating dead comrades and enemies as a way of gaining their strength and because food shouldn’t be wasted. The section also has appearance and suggested names. Sidebars have general rumours about the tribe and ways for a GM to use the tribe in their own campaign.

Religion looks at how worship has recently changed following the arrival of a troglodyte druid who has supplanted the original shamans and worship, whose secret goals do not entirely align with those of the tribe’s leader.

Lair has a brief description of the home.

Combat & Tactics briefly covers this.

New Feats has three new battle feats; battle feats being combat feats intended to add flavour to a tribe’s battles.

New Spells has four new spells and a sidebar has an adept spell list for the tribe.

New Magic Items has three new items.

Stat Blocks, Allies & Encounters starts with Encounters with the Dragon Fang which has four encounters of different types along with a sidebar covering the effects of swamp terrain.

After this are general stat blocks; Warriors and Scouts of the Dragon Fang, Shamans of the Dragon Fang and Variant Lizardfolk of the Dragon Fang, with sidebars covering lizard kings and a new weapon.

Important Personages of the Dragon Fang covers the major NPCs. Sesskarr is the lizard king, with his stats and a sidebar covering his tale.

Groth, Alssarrass and Brethikk are the troglodyte druid, the lead lizardfolk shaman and the kobold head of the bodyguards. Each has a description, overview, personality, mannerisms, hooks and stats.

Lizardfolk of the Dragon Fang in Review

The PDF is well bookmarked with everything except sidebars linked. The Contents is not as thorough but is hyperlinked. There are also details of other important material in the supplement. Navigation is good. The text maintains a two-column black and white format and appeared to be free of error. There are a number of stock black and white illustrations. Presentation is decent.

This is a decent description of a more aggressive and expansionistic lizardfolk tribe that, currently, would not pose a major threat to anything other than nearby villages. Their swamp location will make it easy enough to drop the tribe into most settings, and there are a variety of adventure hooks scattered throughout.
