Kaiju Beastiary Kamon the Living Mountain

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Kaiju Beastiary Kamon the Living Mountain

Kaiju Beastiary Kamon the Living Mountain by Ben Dowell and Brad Marceaux is a role playing game supplement published by Fat Goblin Games for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result.

Kaiju Beastiary Kamon the Living MountainThe supplement is available as a 19-page PDF from DriveThruRPG for $6.76 though it was purchased at a reduced price as part of a special bundle. Two pages are the front and rear covers, one and a half the Open Game License and one is an ad.

Kaiju, Kamon describes the creature itself, with the usual details. Kamon is a slow creature, but vast, and not innately aggressive, though that doesn’t mean it isn’t dangerous. It has a number of special abilities, perhaps most notably the ability to cause earthquakes.

Kamon’s Chosen Template is a new template for those who feed on the soft inner flesh of the kaiju and are altered as a result. They gain a number of earth-based abilities and better healing; the template seems like it may grant more benefits than just a +2.

The Community of Shell is the settlement that lives inside the kaiju, with a description and settlement stats.

Notable NPCs has stats and descriptions for three major NPCs of the community, followed by more of the settlement’s stats then brief descriptions of important areas, which is an odd layout choice, and finally a map.

Ultimate Campaign Kamon Army Stats has stats needed for using the kaiju and the inhabitants with Ultimate Campaign army rules.

Adventure Hooks has four adventure hooks for using Kamon.

Kaiju Beastiary Kamon the Living Mountain in Review

The PDF lacks bookmarks and has enough sections that these would have been useful. Navigation could be better. The text is either single or two column format and some minor errors were noticed. As well as the map, there are a couple of colour illustrations. Presentation is adequate.

This is essentially a single creature, though one with other associated beings and an entire settlement. It’s also unusual for a kaiju in that it may not necessarily be aggressive, though given its size it can cause danger and inflict damage simply from moving around. Something of this size should be thought through before adding to a campaign. It’s also on the expensive side at full price. Kaiju Beastiary Kamon the Living Mountain can be found by clicking here.
