It’s Good to Be Bad by Joseph Mohr is a role playing game supplement published by Old School Role Playing for use with OSRIC. As such, it is covered by the Open Game License and some parts are considered to be Open Game Content as a result. This is an adventure for characters of 3rd-6th level.
The supplement is available as a 29 page Pay What You Want PDF from DriveThruRPG. One page is the front cover, three the front matter and three the Open Game License.
It’s Good to Be Bad explains that the characters are summoned by a demon, the same one as in Only the Good Die Young, as this is another adventure for evil characters. This time, the demon wants to recover a dagger currently in the possession of some elves ever since it was used to assassinate a former king. It also gives some details on the relic, known as the Tooth of Xaa, related to its creation in the author’s setting.
Game Master Information gives the location in the setting of the elven village where the artefact is kept and the artefact’s location in a dungeon complex. There are also random encounters from where the characters start to the forest containing the village, and inside the forest itself.
The Village of Rallagwhen covers the locations in the village and NPCs at them.
The Dungeon Beneath the Village covers the dungeon complex, the usual collection of tricks, traps, foes and puzzles.
Conclusion to the Adventure looks at the two main possible outcomes; the characters hand over the dagger as they were hired to do, and get paid for it, or they decide to keep the artefact and fight the demon.
New Magical Items has some new items, including the artefact.
The final two pages of content have maps of the village and the dungeon.
It’s Good to Be Bad in Review
The PDF lacks bookmarks and is long enough with enough different sections that these would have been useful. Navigation could be better. The text maintains a two-column format and some minor errors were noticed. There are a variety of colour and black and white stock illustrations. Presentation is okay.
This is another adventure aimed at evil characters, something that is rarely seen, which means the players are literally not the good guys. As such, this won’t be to everyone’s taste, though it would be possible to rewrite it to make the enemies villainous, though that will mean swapping out a lot of the foes. Any puzzles that need solving in the dungeon, which is an old school dungeon crawl, just need doing to gain extra treasure. It’s Good to Be Bad is a different kind of adventure and it can be found by clicking here.
