Hovel of Miseries: Fort-based "survival" for MÖRK BORG

A Review of the Role Playing Game Supplement Hovel of Miseries: Fort-based “survival” for MÖRK BORG

Hovel of Miseries: Fort-based “survival” for MÖRK BORG is a role playing game supplement published by grave snail games for use with MÖRK BORG.

The supplement is available as a 19 page Pay What You Want PDF from itch.io. One page is the front cover and one the front matter and Content. There is also a second version of the PDF in a spreads format.

Hovel of Miseries: Fort-based "survival" for MÖRK BORGWhat a Lovely Place to Die explains that the supplement has rules for fort-based survival, intended for characters after the fourth misery. Being MÖRK BORG, the place is something ruined or infested.

Following this is a d66 table of trouble which may happen during a week, with the last result being the Final Dungeon.

Quick Tables are tables of people to hire, defences, theoretically tamed creatures and buildings.

Not a Ruin Yet has defences to buy, tables for cleaning out parts of the ruin, new buildings to create and people and creatures to hire. The last can be general hirelings, people with more skills and abilities and monsters. These are not divided precisely into sections.

Awful Curses has six curses.

4 Hooks & a Talon has adventure hooks.

Death & Taxes has potential complications from local authorities.

Hovel of Miseries: Fort-based “survival” for MÖRK BORG in Review

The PDF is bookmarked with the major sections linked. The Content is to a similar level of depth and is hyperlinked. Navigation is decent. In true MÖRK BORG fashion, the supplement doesn’t follow anything resembling a normal layout or structure, which, again in true MÖRK BORG fashion, makes it difficult to read. There are a variety of illustrations. Presentation is okay.

This supplement does add a range of options for characters to have their own base of operations in a MÖRK BORG game, and such a base will be even more of a resource hog than in a normal game. It’s more a place for things to go wrong. The supplement itself does add some interesting options because of this, but the layout makes it much harder to use than it should be. A plain text version would be appreciated. Hovel of Miseries: Fort-based “survival” for MÖRK BORG is a decent add-on for MÖRK BORG and can be found by clicking here.
